|News and information regarding Millarville Community School.|
|The International Baccalaureate (IB) aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.
At Millarville Community School, students in Kindergarten to Grade 5 support the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP). The PYP focuses on the development of the whole child as it strives to prepare students to be world citizens and lifelong learners. The curriculum is designed to meet the academic, social, physical, emotional and cultural needs of young students.
Using the Alberta Education Program of Studies, curriculum is developed around six transdisciplinary themes that help teachers and students explore knowledge in the broadest sense of the word:
- Who we are
- Where we are in place and time
- How we express ourselves
- How the world works
- How we organize ourselves
- Sharing the planet
At the heart of the PYP is a commitment to “structured inquiry” as a vehicle for learning. Through inquiry, concept-based questions are used to explore curricular themes and to help students to make significant connections.
|To create a caring, challenging, and engaging learning environment which reflects the values and vision of the International Baccalaureate and Foothills School Division.
We strive to inspire and empower our students to think creatively and critically, pursue lifelong learning, and contribute positively to the global community
